U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (February 7, 2025) – The Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority (“WAPA” or the “Authority”) held information sessions yesterday at St. Croix Central High School and the St. Croix Educational Complex to inform students about the Alva C. McFarlane Scholarship. The sessions provided students with essential details on how they can apply for the scholarship and pursue careers in engineering and STEM fields.
Students were informed about the scholarship's eligibility criteria, application process, and benefits. WAPA representatives also shared insights on career paths within the Authority and the role of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) professionals in advancing sustainable solutions.
The Alva C. McFarlane Scholarship offers substantial financial aid to students pursuing careers in these critical areas:
- Bachelor’s Degrees: Up to $80,000 in funding
- Associate’s/Technical Degrees: Up to $30,000 in funding
WAPA encourages all eligible students to apply before the February 28, 2025, deadline. Applications can be submitted online via the online portal. For additional information, students and/or guardians may contact Tracie Wells, WAPA Assistant Director of Human Resources, at tracie.wells@viwapa.vi.
To expand awareness of the Alva C. McFarlane Scholarship, WAPA will continue engaging with high school seniors across the territory. The Authority encourages the community to share this opportunity widely, ensuring more students can benefit from this valuable initiative.
