WAPA Board Convenes Emergency Meeting and Takes Action on LPG Contract

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (August 15, 2025) – The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “the Authority”) Board of Directors held an emergency meeting today, Friday, August 15, 2025, to address matters regarding fuel supply agreements and contract authorizations.

Following executive session, the Board returned to open session and announced the following actions:

  • Rescinding of LPG Contract Authorization: The Board voted to rescind the authorization granted at its July 24th meeting regarding the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) contract. The motion passed with four votes in favor and one against.
  • Approval of Short-Term Emergency Contract: The Board unanimously authorized WAPA management to enter into a three-month emergency contract to ensure continuity of fuel supply.
  • Issuance of a New RFP: The Board authorized WAPA management to issue a new Request for Proposal (RFP). The motion passed with three votes in favor and two opposed.
