St. Thomas-St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands (August 24, 2026) — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (“WAPA” or “the Authority”) is advancing an important phase of the Cabrita Point Distribution Circuit Redundancy Project, bringing St. John closer to a more reliable and resilient power system.
Crews will install and replace utility poles as part of the overhead work needed to support the repair and reconnection of the Cabrita Point submarine cable circuit. To facilitate this work, approximately 20 Cabrita Point customers on Feeder 9C will experience a planned power interruption from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, August 25.
Once operational, the restored redundant connection will give WAPA greater flexibility to reroute power during maintenance, equipment failures and unexpected outages, helping to reduce the potential impact and duration of future interruptions for St. John customers.
The Authority appreciates the understanding and support of affected customers as this work progresses.
